PROM. I'm sure the word brings up memories for you, or at least the stereotypical clichés that you see in movies, of it being the perfect night. You probably remember the dress or the tux that you wore, where you ate, and what theme song was played. Well, for me, prom didn't mean much until recently. During my high school years I never attended prom. None of my friends went so I didn't really miss out on much.
But as time would have it, I was asked to go with my best friend to her senior prom. I was super excited and a little nervous about going since, after all, this was my first prom. But I would totally recommend going to a prom after you graduate. You know yourself so much better than you did in high school and you really don’t care what people think when you hit your twenties, so it makes for an all-around much better time.
What I'm wearing:
Tuxedo (Vera Wang) - Tie (The Tie Bar)
Lapel (The Tie Bar) - Shoes (Vera Wang)
Pocket Square (The Tie Bar)
I was so excited that Mallory chose a gold dress. Who wouldn’t want to look like a Grammy award on their prom night? I absolutely loved my slim fit Vera Wang tux. Classic black with a modern fit is such a great look. I chose a paisley gold tie to complement Mallory’s multi-gold dress. Rather than a corsage, I went with a red flower lapel pin that I am still crazy about.
Now…..let me share a funny story about going to the actual prom. Get ready, because this is gonna be a good one! Straight out of a movie. When you put two very dramatic people together on a night that is pressured into being a very larger- than- life event, things are bound to happen that are not in the plan. We took pictures with a few of Mallory’s friends and headed out for dinner before the walk and the actual dance. After enjoying some great Japanese and almost having our eyebrows singed off, we started making our way back for “the walk”. The whole night, I tried to make perfect for Mallory since it was her senior year and last official prom. I whipped out an umbrella when it started raining and even opened the door for her every time, or most of the time. Whoops!
At this point we are talking about how much fun we are having and we have about 45 minutes to get to where the prom is being held. Then we realize that I’ve been driving in the wrong direction on the interstate for a good half hour. After a few “omgs” and “how in the worlds?”,I whip the car around and start driving 85 miles an hour. We are at least an hour away and the walk starts in 45 minutes. Now before you start criticizing and asking how we managed to go the wrong way, these things happen and….it was dark okay! I was not familiar with where we were eating and….and…I opened the door for her! Don’t blame me! Hahaha
Praise God we didn't run into any cops because I set a new record cutting nearly 20 minutes off of the gps predicted arrival time. We got to the dance and ran through the back kitchen entrance (people are looking at us like we are crazy) and jump in the back of the line just as soon as the walk starts….I know believe me I couldn't breathe either.
To wrap it all up, we had a fantastic time! Regardless of almost missing prom we had a blast! And quite a few people said they saved the best for last.
