I'm bringing in the New Year with a killer recipe! For those of you making resolutions to live a healthier lifestyle, this gluten free pizza recipe is a great option if you're not willing to give it up entirely. Whether you are getting fit in 2016 or just want to try something new on an old classic, this recipe has got you covered. I teamed up with my mom, over at Whispers from Wildwood, to create this super simple treat. She is sensitive to gluten, so she absolutely loves it. Shout out to my dad for helping me not burn the house down! The best part is that it is actually a fairly simple process that doesn't require many ingredients.
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED:
- GLUTEN FREE CRUST (SOLD INDIVIDUALLY)
- OLIVE OIL
- PIZZA SAUCE
- 1B. GROUND TURKEY OR YOUR CHOICE OF MEAT
- PEPPERONI (OPTIONAL)
- YOUR CHOICE OF CHEESE TOPPING
You want to first start by browning your meat. Ground turkey & chicken are better than ground beef if you are seeking a healthier option. Be sure to preheat your oven to 450 degrees, while your meat is cooking. Brush your gluten-free crust with olive oil to make it taste great and keep it from drying out. Next, spread your pizza sauce evenly until the entire crust is covered. Go ahead and add the meat to the mix after it has finished cooking, and then top with as much cheese as you want. I typically want more protein than fat, so I'll go heavy on the turkey and low on the cheese. The final step before cooking is to add your pepperonis. Throw that sucker in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until it looks done. You can check the bottom of the crust to be sure. The perfect pizza will have a slightly browned bottom.
